HAPPY
Commercial Multi-head Machines Have New Thread
Control System |
|
The
thread break sensor and the thread tension control
unit on the HCR series are combined, improving upper
thread feed and tension control. Independent
take-up springs improve overall sewing quality.
Control panel settings allow the machine to better
handle different types of thread sewing together on
the same design, i.e. metallic + polyester, or other
combinations. |

Sewing
on Stretch
Fabrics
A Simple
Digitizing Trick
by Rene Rosales |
I’m “HAPPY” to
share my technique for painless sewing on stretchy
fabric, which is increasingly popular among our
customers.
First,
the nature of the problem: most “stretchy”-type
garments in demand lack any obvious sewing
challenges. They’re smooth, thin, strong and
lightweight – qualities that make them especially easy
to sew on. However, when the garment is actually
sewn, these sort of problems consistently appear:
o Shapes (fill stitches) get distorted
o Text gets
distorted
o
Alignment/registration problems (i.e. satin borders
fail to line up with fill edges)
The
distortion looks worse on designs whose individual
sections must come into alignment, or where the shape
is very important (i.e. square corners on a flag, a
lot of straight lines, or rows of text.
How to Fix:
Digitize a running stitch “pre-underlay” that sews
under the entire area of the design. Even though
digitizing programs automatically create some sort of
underlay that sews before each section, it is
important that this running stitch “pre-underlay”
covers the entire area of the design before the design
begins to sew. This serves to anchor the entire
design area to the fabric so that it won’t shift as it
sews, section-by-section. Figure 1 shows a design
that sewed on a certain Under Armor workout shirt, and
Figure 2 shows the stabilizing running stitch I
created to counter the stretch effect. Be sure
and use a good cutaway backing! |
 |
Figure 1: This
complex design has lots of elements that need to
line up, and was impossible on a stretchy Under
Armor top. |
|
| Figure 2: The
stabilizing run stitch I created (shown in
black) that tacks down the garment area to the
fabric. |

Tech
Tip of the Month 2: Threading Your Machine |
|
Hi Happy Customer,
This month's second tech
tip is on threading your machine properly. If the machine is not
threaded correctly, it will not run at optimal performance. That's why
it is crucial to know how to properly thread your machine.
Note: The document is meant to
complement, not replace the operator's manual that came with your machine.
